Few hours earlier Adobe took Acrobat.com out of beta and is rolling out a fresh new product called Tables. Tables is supposed to compete head on with MS Excel in near future. Table is currently launched in Adobe’s Acrobat Labs section primarily because it is still under development. Acrobat has also turned Acrobat.com into a business with paid user accounts though it will retain the free version with limited features. It will charge the users for up gradation to a premium plan.
Premium Basic: has monthly and yearly cost of $14.99 or $39. Allows 10 PDF conversions (per month) and 5 meeting participants through Adobe’s ConnectNow tool.
Premium Plus: has a monthly and yearly cost of $149 or $390 respectively. Allows unlimited PDF conversion and meeting with upto 20 users.
About a year ago Adobe launched acrobat.com, a platform over which it has launched a series of desktop (things similar to MS Office) and online collaboration tool (similar to Google Docs). Now a year after its launch it is populated with Buzzword (Adobe’s version of MS Word), ConnectNow (virtual meeting tool), Create & Share PDF, Presentation (collaboratively building presentation) and the latest one Tables.
Will Adobe be able to compete with MS, Google? Well it sure looks like an uphill task….
