Google And Yahoo: Take Bing Seriously!

binglogo_reverse_lgAfter all the buzz created by Google’s Chrome OS yesterday its time for Microsoft(more info) to have some restrained celebration. According to the latest data from Compete.com ,Bing (more info) a decision engine is now the 13th most visited site on the web. It has just taken one month for Bing to surpass sites like Twitter, Digg and CNN (Read more). Bing was able to register 49.67 million unique visits which is more than Digg with 38.96 million, Twitter with 23 million and CNN with 28.54 million(data represents U.S. traffic only). But older brother of Bing, Live.com is ahead of him by 30 million unique visitors probably because Hotmail still resides at mail.live.com. If they can embed Bing into Hotmail the result will further shoot up. David Pogue of New York Times wrote a review stating that Bing often does Google one better with its search results (Read more). The start is impressive(no doubt about that) but way to go before it can even think of challenging Google (Read more).

The toughest hurdle for Bing will be break people of their habits. I’m so accustomed to using Google, that I forget that Bing is an option. I may try to change my browser’s default search engine to give Bing a try for a while. That will force me to use it.

@Evan:Even i am accustomed to use google…bing search is better than google..I feel.Best option is to make bing as default search engine to overcome as said ‘the toughest hurdle’(habit of googling).

Thats true Evan..Google is ruling the roost since a decade and it is transformed into verb an alternative to the word search.. When you open your browser the first site you open is Google and changing this mindset will be an uphill task for Bing.

Looks to me quite impressive though need to use it more before jumping. Yes Google is great but has been there for long time. Frankly doing some technical search it does not meet meet good filtering mechanism. I think we need several search engine which are specialist for certain type of searches.

It will not be for long, Google is preparing to HIT Bing with something new. I don’t know what will be but I’m sure it will come soon.

@Joel : may be.. it is real real tough for Bing.. though they have started too well but they need to keep innovating (and hope google won’t ;) , which is, i beleive near to impossible!)

Personally I think Bing got a huge amount of visitors from us, who tries to make money online, testing it. I’m so used to use Google that I always say the verb “google” instead of using “search”.
