Microsoft Office 2010 Review In A Nutshell; Big News – Online Office Will Be FREE!
This time MS has come out with some really intriguing feature in Office! The big news is that Office 2010 (more info) will be over the clouds and you can have a ride on them for free (if you have Windows Live ID). Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions will be available and it will be released by 1st half of 2010 though a beta will be available by this year end.
Let’s get started
Word 2010 – will have a new “paste preview” option which will allow users to hover over different paste options and see the preview of their paste.
Web Version – will look almost similar to the desktop version and MS has named it ‘Document fidelity’.
Excel 2010 – Sparklines is the most creative upgrade in Office this time. This will allow users to view a visual snapshot image of a data trend over time within a particular cell.
Web Version - not comparable to desktop Excel and has limited features.
PowerPoint 2010 – This has graduated to totally new level with some real cool upgrades like Video and Image editing (simplified versions of iMovie and Photoshop probably).
Web Version – video editing is not included but most of the other features are.
Outlook 2010 – E-mails will appear in threads (of conversation).
Check out the Office 2010 Movie and this for loads of other videos.
Desktop version of 2010 will allow multiple people to work on same document with the help of so called co-authoring tools.
After this news Microsoft jumped by 2.7 percent to $23 (Nasdaq up 1.2 percent at 1777.50).
All the Office applications will run in Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer and MS is optimizing it for Chrome.
Office Online definately looks a lot better than Google docs. What say?

@anshi this time around MS has done some serious improvements and are ready to take on Google doc.. Its a saying that competition takes out best from you!!

@anshi : Take it from me… this free cloud thing will cost Google docs heavly!
Finally…… Microsoft decided to make the Office free on clouds(internet) and has started getting in race with the Google docs. Question is…. will Microsoft stop with office only or they are going to bring some more things onto clouds so as to compete the threats to them like the disclosure of Chrome OS????
Finally … Microsoft did free the office on net… but the question is r they going to come up with some more stuffs online and free??? might be something like chrome OS which is considered to be the recent greatest threat for windows OS????
mmm.. like Google apps..
I’m sure that time Google apps will be top leader. Now Google apps out of beta.

@Mano : i doubt it.
For sparklines that work with older Excel version (Excel 2000, XP, 2003 and 2007) have a look on MicroCharts

Nothing beneficial for most businesses – no reason to upgrade/purchase –
Like Vista – all bling – no function.
If they wanted to improve Office they SHOULD have -
1. Made outlook open multiple e-mail accounts as full exchange -not an additional mailbox with some functionality or pop/imap with very limited functionality but two seperate exchange profiles simultaneously from multiple exchange servers.
2. Full OLE support for pictures in access – umm wasn’t that functional with Office XP – why take that out? Why should someone have to code to add pictures to a personal database? Might was well use oracle or a real database if you are going to have to use code. Adding Office XP photo editor is the work around but why not just add photo editor back into office if that is the solution?
3. Offer the old menu bar for people (most of my clients) who don’t want to learn the new menu bar. You can finally modify the ribbon to some extent in 2010 however my clients just want their old ribbon bar. Frankly I have no issue with the new menu bar but I’m one person and most of my clients don’t like it so prefer to stick with office 2003. MS could make money selling the new version if they just offered the old menu as a choice with the new ribbon.
I am fan of Outlook and Excel 2010 already. I had installed them just yesterday and its really awesome. Outlook 2010 has some great new features. Like email threads..better to do bar..better layout..
Excel ..i don’t think there is any other better spread sheets available in the market.
Google docs is no where close..

Yes… Google docs is no way close to Office… and office online could mean a huge loss for Google.
@Mayank
I agree Google Docs is no match for Office. And a thing about ribbon interface. That the way technology evolves for better. Ribbon is one of the prime reasons to upgrade(at least to me). Moreover since MS is changing most app menu to WPF Ribbon interface (see MS Paint and Wordpad in 7) you need to make yourself comfortable with it… Office 2007 is 3 years old and (public release Jan 30, 2007). You need to adapt.
Thanks

I already using it..this is awesome.
