Apple A Monopoly In Apps: Gone Past The Magical Figure Of 2 Billion Downloads
Remarkable! In the last two and half months Apple App Store has registered a staggering rate of 6.6 million app downloads and a average of 4.5 million downloads per day since its launch. Apple today announced that more than two billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store in just over an year of its launch. Apple App Store is growing at an enormous pace- In April they had reached a billion figure, 1.5 billion in July and now 2 billion. Quick Stats About the App Store
- Over 85,000 apps available as compared to 65,000 apps in July
- Over 125,000 developers registered for Apple’s Developer Program
- More than 50 million iPhone and iPod Touch customers in 77 countries worldwide
What Steve Jobs has to say about this feat
The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it.
How much revenue Apple is generating from it? Apple doesn’t disclose the breakdown of free app vs paid app being downloaded from the App Store, so you can’t actually predict. But revenue from App doesn’t matter much. The fact is with more than 85,000 apps in their App Store, who is going to buy a smart phone other than iPhone?

Wait,,, if M$ get sued for shipping a browser for free, how come apple don’t get sued for forcing its users to download 84mb of bloatware that just happens to be the largest online retailer of music, and the only way you can get apps onto your iphone. Smooth corners and shinny UI have the masses fooled.

You forgot one thing “Smooth corners and shinny UI have the masses fooled” + great functionality… not like that IE crap.
Maybe you should google why Microsoft got sued before making silly statements like it was because they shipped a free browser. Then you wouldn’t sound uninformed talking about smooth corners and shiny UI’s…ok you still would.
