Google Comes Up With Online Hindi Essay Contest – Hai Baaton Mein Dum?

hindi_contest_googlePay attention all the Hindi writers who just scribble in their diaries, this is the time you should publish those writings on the web for others to read and also get recognition from it.  Google in association with LiveHindustan.com just rolled out a contest Hai Baaton Mein Dum (When translated in English it means “Do your words have power”) which is an online essay contest for all of those who can write meaningful content in Hindi. Basically it is an initiative to crowd source the web with high quality Hindi content. Finally Google is doing some bit for creation of  Hindi content. You can submit your entries under five categories. I am going to list down five categories and also I have selected a great post published so far in that particular category (You are going to love these posts).

1.Entertainment, culture and literature (Post on Indian food which will make you will hungry)
2.Travel (Best post on travel from from a 11th standard student)
3.Sports (Only one post in this category so far. Any Guesses? Obviously about Sachin)
4.Health (One of a kind)
5.Social, economic and political issues (Post on Hindi language)

Just visit the contest site and submit your entries (there is a Hindi version for the page too). The contest started on 7th Dec 2009 and will end on 31st Jan 2010. You  can create your entry by using Google’s Knol and Google Transliteration tool. (Learn how to create an entry from here). Knol (not so famous product from Google) allows anyone to write and publish their content to the world.  FYI: Knol was seen as a Wikipedia killer when it launched in 2007 but it never picked up. Google Transliteration helps to convert Roman characters to their phonetic equivalent in Hindi language (see the pic below). In a way it will help Google to promote both of its not so famous products Knol and Transliteration. The posts will also feature Hindi URL (like this http://knol.google.com/k/anu-shrivastava/म-र-मनपस-द-पर-यटन-स-थल-इ-टरन-ट/1cn7azhkl3zz1/2?collectionId=2kgrf274cyync.2#)

Why I should write for Google? Winner of every category will get a laptop and also 50 shortlisted entries will get an internet subscription for six months (Google knows what most of the Indians can’t get). Laptop is a vague term, I will also think of publishing one essay if they are going to give Macbook Air (I know I am not that good at writing in Hindi).

So all the hindi writers just load up your guns and start bombarding Google with your Hindi essays.
