Google Phone Is A Real Thing – All Evidences Attached

Ok, so lately there have been a lot of buzz about the so called Google phone. Firstly TechCrunch caught a few Tweets (by Google employees) about the Google Phone (Tweets attached below) then WSJ further stamped it and said that the new Google branded phone will be called Nexus One. Thought a lot of things still remains unconfirmed but one thing is for sure – A new Android phone rumored as Google’s own phone much like Apple’s iPhone is on its way and should be out by early 2010. I have attached all the proofs that have appeared till now about the the Google Phone. Even Google has now confirmed that they are dogfooding a new Android device with Googlers. It is supposedly build by HTC with Google closely monitoring & dictating every bit of h/w and design detail.
Rumor mill also says -
- It will be GSM (unlocked) based with no carrier restriction
- A screen slightly bigger than the iPhone (may be very much similar to DROID)
- No physical keyboard (bingo!)
- A voice to text input
- Android 2.1
- It will be called Nexus One
- Google will be selling it (hardware) online
Apparently BGR says that Nexus One is even apperaing in server logs now (snap shot attached below)

I am still confused whether this is the same HTC Passion which was speculated when Google inked a deal with Verizon or some thing different altogether (photos look quite similar). And if this is HTC Passion then why the hell is this even called a Google Phone?

The best thing so far is that this is going to be a GSM unlocked device. This might become a major reason for the adoption of this phone. Letz wait and watch as things roll out. I am sure a lot will be raveled about the Google Phone in coming days and it wont be long when we will have be having a full detailed review of this phone.
Early to ask but still this question is inevitable… do we have finally have an iPhone killer in the making?

Can someone explain what “GSM unlocked” means, and why it is significant? Google, ironically, isn’t very helpful here.
GSM is a standard for wireless networks. In the U.S., both T-Mobile and AT&T use it — as opposed to Verizon and Sprint who use CDMA.
Unlocked means that it is not restricted to only one carrier, unlike most phones.
GSM Unlocked essentially means it can be used on an AT&T or T-Mobile account (e.g., you can put a T-Mobile sim card in and use that T-Mobile number attached to that sim card, take it out, then slip a AT&T one in right after).
Edit: As far as the United States is concerned. It can be used on any GSM network, though.
perfectly put… same here in India. Infact in India almost 90% cell phone are GSM unlocked. so u can use almost any carrier. Note- part of the reason iPhone coudnt make it big in developing countries like India.
This should be better than DROID considering it will be sold unlocked. The days of iPhone are numbered with a huge explosion of Android devices. I wann to get rid of that shitty app store process and even worse AT&T n/w.

But you all have seen its progress insipite of being in Verizon network… iPhone is also being rumored to come with Verizon next yr… Also Apple would not have been sitting idle and enjoying the show from Google.. Sooner or later you will get next gen iPhone….
Android is catching up pretty fast buddy. It already has 20k apps under its belt. I can tell you Android is soon going to over take App store primarily because there will be so many devices powered by it… I dont mean that any of them will be as good as iPhone but they will beat iPhone and App Store in the number game.
