4G Internet WTF 4G Has Arrived But I Am Still Waiting For 3GWorld’s first 4G/LTE (Long Term Evolution) mobile broadband services went live not in US and not by Verizon. But for a change, the Scandinavian operator TeliaSonera has launched it in Sweden and Norway. For now, TeliaSonera launched these services in just two cities Stockholm, Sweden and Oslo, Norway. They also have license for Finland, so it is also on the cards. It is only available for USB equipped devices via Samsung modem hence it can only be used with Laptops as of now (phone users have to wait for some time).
The maximum speed will be around 100 Mbps, which is 10 times faster than 3G but real operating speed is expected to be between 20 Mpbs to 80 Mbps.  According to new definition of International Telecommunication Union (ITU),  4G (which they call IMT-Advanced) should have a minimum speed of 100 Mpbs (mobile) and 1 Gbps (fixed) in order to qualify for true “4G”. So, maybe they are still lagging behind what should be called a true 4G. Anyways, the people of both cities will be able to watch online HDTV movies and would also be able to play multitasking games on the move.

Samsung LTE Modem

In India, not a single private mobile operator has the license and spectrum to launch 3G except one public operator (BSNL -which nobody uses). While the world is ready to embrace 4G technology here I am – still yearning for 3G :(

    yes.. it is quite sick here in India. There are hardly any options for you to access web when you are on the move, even if you are ready to pay heavy fee for that.
    4G – Thumbs up for TeliaSonera & Samsung.

      Right Raghav. the worst part is there are no options at all.. You just cant be online (on the move) on a high speed internet unless you carry a laptop and a TATA photon card.

        Very strange. Wondering why is it even called a developing country?

    It’s really ironical that we have people wanting to move ahead here in India, but I think that with the rise in awareness of Technology by Blogs like this one and others, sometime you guys will really create a dent in the Indian Constitution, and I feel that’s more difficult than creating a dent in the universe;
    Hope you guys know what I mean…
