Best of The Best – Top 5 Videos & Twitter Trends of 2009
Today YouTube and Twitter for the 1st time announced their annual trends. The results are not very surprising, but it is always interesting to peak into results of such a huge set of data. It gives a good understanding of the direction in which the collective consciousness of man kind as a whole is evolving – our likes and dislikes, causes we stand for (#iranelection), what ticks us, what annoys us and so on…. Another prospective – if analysed carefully it also has germs of what exactly makes some thing go viral on line. Personally this is what I look for.
Ok, letz start with Twitter. Twitter trends quite understandably are not surprising because you get to see them all the time under “Trending Topics” and if you are a Twitter addict like me you can guesse most of it. Top Twitter trends across various categories are -
#Iran election, Michael Jackson, Harry Potter, American Idol, Super Bowl, Google Wave, #musicmonday
What is most amazing about Twiiter is the way it has evolved over a span of a year and how its users have contributed its evolution. Take # tags, @, RT all of them were invented by the users. Twitter has literally tapped into the wisdom of the crowds and is a perfect example of Web 2.0 and its power of crowd sourcing. Following are Twitter trends of the year 2009.

Any idea why the Susan Boyle video on YouTube says embedding disabled? Looks like You Tube is not only worried about Number of views but also page views.
