Google To Launch Twitter Like Features In GMail by This Week End?
This could be some thing big. Google is believed to be working on some killer social feature for GMail. This new feature could be out as early as this week end. The basic use of this feature will be to make it easy for users to share real time updates/information with their friends. WSJ reported a while back also said
“Currently, Gmail has a chat bar that can display a short “away message” for each user’s contacts. But the new interface will have an area that users can click through to see updates from more friends in a stream—a format popularized by Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc., these people said”
Apart from this Google will also integrate its social media channels like YouTube, Picasa etc with this. This new service “will allow users to allow Gmail users to view a stream of status updates from people they choose to connect with.”
As, of now nothing much is know apart from this. But if implemented properly this could be a game changer for a simple reason that loads of people still use GMail as regularly as Twitter or Facebook. This also shows the fact that Google is not banking heavily on Wave which initially was supposed to Google’s social answer to Facebook and Twitter. Wait and watch.
