Today is especial day. Quite ironically one God created history today by scoring 200 runs in ODI and becoming 1st man on the planet to achieve this mark & on the other hand, right on the opposite side of the planet another God celebrates his Birthday today and turns 55. Well I for that matter worship both these Gods equally. By now you must have guessed it, I am talking about the God of cricket Sachin TENdulkar and another Godly figure in Silicon Valley Steve Jobs. Even more remarkable is the fact that iTunes might hit 10 billion download mark today!

Happy B’Day Steve Jobs

Letz talk in detail about the Tech God.

If you have got to pick one man who has redefined technology then it is got be Steve Paul Jobs. Steve Jobs, the man who has fueled the world with Innovation, Creativity and jaw dropping technology. Just because of this one guy last decade will be remembered as the decade of the advent of gadgets.

Steve returned to the company he founded in 1997 and since then he has led Apple to launch its most remarkable products ever -

iMac & MacBooks - Bringing in the NeXT technology with him, Steve revamped the dying Macintosh OS.

iPod - Took around an year to go main stream and was considered a failure initially. But as the economy came back on its feet by 2003 iPod was a hit and it was selling like hot cakes around the world.

Steve & Apple

Steve & Apple

iTunes – One products that single-handedly saved the music industry from the attack of the pirates. iTunes is about to hit 10 billion songs download and this is just a testimony to the awesome success of iTunes.

iPhone – Call this the product of the decade. iPhone redefined the mobile industry for ever. It was the marriage of mobile phone to the internet. It was the single best invention in the mobile phone industry. Although people called it vision less but despite the fact that it was priced at $500 initially it sold like hot cakes. There were long queue in front of Apple store to buy an iPhone. From the day one people loved it.

The App Store – If iPhone defined how a mobile device should function then App store defined how it should be used. Jobs himself once said that he has not seen any thing like the growth of App store in his life. Quite remarkably in just a matter of around 18 months there have been over 3 billion apps downloaded from the App store and there are 120k+ apps in App store. Others have followed the suite but none have been as successful as Apple.

So by the end of the decade Steve has ended up redefining the music industry with iPod and iTunes, mobile industry with iPhone and App Store. Don’t forget the contribution the NeXT technology in the over success of Apple. He might as well be on a verge to redefine print media with his latest iPad.

Steve Jobs is not only about the products he has made and sold, there have been Larry and Sergey, there has been Bill Gates, there has been Mark Zuckerberg, there has been Evan Williamsand many others, all of them no doubt have made great contribution to technology. What really sets him apart is the kind of persona he carries. This man’s key note addresses are as awaited in the tech world as Obama’s inauguration speech. The kind of cult following he has is rarely seen in the business world. There is some thing in him which has fooled death itself not once but twice. Once surviving from Pancreatic Cancer back in 2004 and then from a Liver Transplant last year.

While our grand fathers and their grand fathers will be proud that they lived in the times of Edison and Gandhi I will proud that I lived in the times of Gods like Steve Jobs and Sachin Tendulkar. In India we don’t get an opportunity to attend Steve’s key note but this is one of my wishes for the coming year – I want to sit at the feet of Steve Jobs and attend his key note address and give a standing ovation to the man who has been an inspiration to me like no one else.

Wishing you a very Happy 55th Birthday. Today I will celebrate and wish for the good health of my Godfather Steve Paul Jobs.

Many Many Happy Returns of the Day Steve
