RIP Google.cn: Google Closes Its Search Operations in China
Google has announced a moment ago in their blogpost that they are closing down all of their search operations in China. From now onwards Google.cn will redirect to Google.com.hk. This is a black day for the open web and China. Google has stopped censoring their search services Google Search, News and Images on Google.cn and it will redirected to Google.com.hk where all the uncensored results will come in Chinese language. In simple words Google is just shifting their servers from China to Hong Kong. Google’s map and music search will remain live in China domain as of now. Google will continue to have their R&D center in China and also a sales team if and only if China doesn’t start blocking Google.com.hk.
Google has taken this decision just because of the continuous phishing and cyber attacks originating from China in December. Google has also opened a new website to inform users about access issues in some of its applications in China which will actually monitor uptime of Google apps. In plain words this new website will show what China is allowing and what it is not allowing. Below is the image, showing status of Google apps as of yesterday.
China is totally against the pen web and you never know when they will start blocking Google.com.hk. I am just waiting for China’s next move. The ball is in their court now.

This indeed is a historic decision form Google. Hail Google for taking up such a bold stand for the cause of Open Web.
Get out of China, u evil Google! Don’t use the name of Open Web. Shame on u. There is something called Rule of Laws.
@Ordinary Chinese – I have never seen anyone more deluded than a person who has grown up in the Chinese mainland.
Your government is trying to prevent *you* and *your* countrymen from finding out about stuff that the rest of the world knows about – this includes acts that *your* government does in suppressing freedom and oppressing *your* own countrymen.
Your government has managed to do this for so long by convincing people like you that it is best that you don’t know about the things your government does. They have done this by passing laws – laws which shouldn’t be passed at all. Laws which ought to be repealed.
Your defense of this corrupt, oppressive government indicates that your government has succeeded in brain-washing you into thinking that what they are doing is fine.

+1 Rosa. I was waiting for some one to reply on this.
If a lie is repeated 10 times then people start believing it. Looks like some thing similar is happening in China. Government has managed to brain wash people (some if not all) into believing that censorship is good for them.
