iPad Has Already Started Sucking The Netbook Market
Not only is the iPad selling like hot cakes but its sales have already started affecting the netbook market. Netbook sales which were growing at a crazy pace of 641% year-over-year not more than a year ago have reduced drastically. A chart published by a Morgan Stanley analysts says that the same figure for April ‘10 could be as low as, guess what? 5%. These figures have been shrinking drastically right from January when the iPad was announced. Also, worth noticing is another research piece cited by Fortune stating:
survey conducted in March that found that 44% of U.S. consumers who were planning to buy an iPad said that they were buying it instead of a netbook or notebook computer
I wrote about this in detail some time back and said
if iPad caters the need of that market (3rd category of device b/w smart phone and netbook) better than the netbook then it will almost certainly result in the fall of netbook. The vice-versa is equally true. It is more or less a zero sum game between iPad (and may be other upcoming tablets) and netbook.
Indeed, this is becoming pretty clear now. It is a zero sum game and for starters, iPad is winning.
But Netbooks are not the only losers here, the report also suggests that iPod Touch, Ebook Reader, Desktop and Videogame handheld devices are also going downhill. It will be interesting to watch this trend as the iPad is rolled out in the rest of the world in coming months. By the end of the year the picture should be pretty much clear until Google Chrome OS (or any other tablet device) turns out to a real game changer. These 3rd category of devices could be on their way to change the way we have been computing for almost a decade and a half. Fingers crossed.

IPAD is only one month old. It will never eat the netbook market.
1. Ipad is costlier than netbook.
2. People already seeing the importance of physical Keyboard in ipad.
3. Netbook has lot of memory and freedom of usage.
4. Ipad is closed
next one or two months netbook sales will be down since IPAD is new. When people realize no use of IPAD, people turn to netbooks again.
IPAD never replace netbook. …… Physical keyboard make difference.
