Promoted Tweets

It is been long awaited, but it is finally here – Twitter’s advertising model. Today, Biz Stone wrote in Twitter Blog that soon they will be rolling out what they call “Promoted Tweets”, there way of putting ads in Twitter search. Biz wrote

“You will start to see Tweets promoted by our partner advertisers called out at the top of some Twitter.com search results pages. We strongly believe that Promoted Tweets should be useful to you. We’ll attempt to measure whether the Tweets resonate with users and stop showing Promoted Tweets that don’t resonate”

In spite of all the early heat the iPad faced after it was revealed on 27th January, it seems, all of that is cooling off rather quickly. People are loving this new gadget from Apple and looks like the iPad is most definitely a game changer. People have gone far enough to say that iPad could even chase down Laptops.. Well not before it becomes multi tasking.

Introducing iPadLike the netbook, iPad is targeted in between a smart phone and a laptop. The big question here is – Is there any room? What about netbooks? Do I really need an iPad? Well it will be premature to answer all these questions right now.

facebook-privacyIt now becoming a regular habit of facebook engineers to goof up with their code every other day. Some time they just push some code by mistake and my personal messages are delivered to a completely random guy, some time they push a buggy code and my E-Mail ID becomes public to every one, some time they are completely unaware of a major security flaw in facebook and on and on… The only problem here is some how they just forget that every time they go around goofing up with their code 400 million people (and growing) around the globe coud be potentially effected. That is more than the population of most of the countries! They just fucking don’t understand that user privacy is no joke especially for a site as big as facebook. So what happened this time?

Apple’s Next Big Thing – iAd

iAdRemember Apple’s acquisition of the mobile ad firm Quattro? Looks like Apple is now all set to jump in a big way into mobile advertising. According to MediaPost Apple is about to unveil its mobile advertising platform on 7th of April and it is being dubbed as (no surprises here) iAd. Steve Jobs is supposed to have said that iAd will be “revolutionary” and there “next big thing“.

Looks like Google was under attack yet again. This time the companies corporate page and executive information page was temporarily switched to Chinese language, Guardian reported a while back. Was this yet another hack attempt on Google originating from China? Google has yet to respond on this. In some areas the Corporate Information was also getting redirected to the non-censored Chinese version of Google.

orkut_logoToo Little To Late. After a long wait of 30 months and after more than 30,000 app in Android Market, Google has some how realized that there can be an Android App of Orkut too!  So, today Google launches its Official ”Orkut for Android” App. Orkut for Android allows you to create a “Orkut Friends Live Folder” on your Home Screen that lets you browse and communicate to your friends directly. Orkut for Android also allows you upload pics directly from the Android device to your Orkut album. Obviously it has a Scrap notification that will appear directly on the devices notification bar.

iPadThe pre-order for the iPad is on and its selling like hot cakes. Leave aside all the iPad Launch disappointments – no multi tasking, no flash, no USB Drive… blah blah. Apple fans were tracking the iPad sales right form the starting. This is what Phanfare has to say -

We just bought two iPads, about 30 minutes apart. Our order IDs are 10,000 apart. Assuming those order IDs are sequential, and they appear to be, then Apple is selling 20,000 iPads per hour.

Simply awesome!

Military Operation Canceled FacebookThis comes from Israel. A military raid on suspected militants in West Bank had to be rolled off after one of the Israeli soldiers updated his Facebook status with a stupid message which went some thing like this

“On Wednesday we clean up Qatanah, and on Thursday, god willing, we come home.”

Reports in Israeli newpapaer Haaretz also suggests that the soldier also leaked the name of the combat unit, the place of the operation and the time of operation. This was discovered by the military when his Facebook friends reported about this to the military authorities.

Steve ~ I Want You To Stop Stealing From Us

By now every one under the sun knows that Apple has sued HTC and apparently it has got less to do with HTC and a lot to do with Google & Android. After all HTC is the manufacturer of Nexus One and uses Android in a lot of its phone.

Although Steve Jobs is right when he says in the press release

“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
