itunes-10-billion-downloadiTunes has just now reached another hall mark. Some time back iTunes recorded its 10 billionth song download. Apple has gift voucher of $10000 for the person who has downloaded this lucky song. They will be revealing details on this soon. Steve couldn’t have asked for a better Birthday gift than this! 10 Billion songs downloaded means a lot. Putting in more numbers this means that every single person on earth has downloaded around 1.49431 songs from iTunes store of Apple (World population – 66920303277).

This post is dedicated to God.

iGod

Today is especial day. Quite ironically one God created history today by scoring 200 runs in ODI and becoming 1st man on the planet to achieve this mark & on the other hand, right on the opposite side of the planet another God celebrates his Birthday today and turns 55. Well I for that matter worship both these Gods equally. By now you must have guessed it, I am talking about the God of cricket Sachin TENdulkar and another Godly figure in Silicon Valley Steve Jobs. Even more remarkable is the fact that iTunes might hit 10 billion download mark today!

Twitter Brings Free SMS Tweets To Haiti

twitter_logoTwitter is known for going out of its way to help people fight a social/political cause which Twitter believes in. Most remarkable was the role of Twitter in last years Iran elections. Though Twitter did face the heat for helping the people of Iran when it was hacked late last year by the so called ‘Iranian Cyber Army’. Now comes yet another humanitarian gesture from Twitter, this time for the people of Haiti. Twitter has arranged free SMS tweets for the people of Haiti who are using Digicel network for their mobile phones. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone writes in Twitter Blog

The Problems With Google Buzz

google-buzzI have been using Google Buzz for past 2 days now. Apart from what ever problems I am going to point out, I must say I am quite impressed with Buzz. After series of more or less failed efforts into social networking this time around Google has definitely cracked it. Google Buzz, as I said earlier is “friendfeed commenting + facebook status updates + twitter like following model + foursquare type Geo tagging, all rolled into your e-mail. It is dead simple to use and understand ( i was able to figure out every thing with in 5 minutes) The learning curve is very low. Google Buzz could be huge”. This said and done, I must say, this looks like an in complete product to me. It is turning out to be a lot more noisy than it initially looked.

Gmail coming with social media features?

Gmail coming with social media features?

This could be some thing big. Google is believed to be working on some killer social feature for GMail. This new feature could be out as early as this week end. The basic use of this feature will be to make it easy for users to share real time updates/information with their friends. WSJ reported a while back also said

“Currently, Gmail has a chat bar that can display a short “away message” for each user’s contacts. But the new interface will have an area that users can click through to see updates from more friends in a stream—a format popularized by Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc., these people said”

google-speech-to-speechGoogle is working on speech to speech real time translator that would automatically translate any foreign language into the language of your choice (your native language) and vice versa. So, basically this will allow multi lingual phone conversation in real time. It is believed that Google plans to use this speech to speech translator for Android. Google already has a free online text translator. As reported by Times Online, the software is in paramilitary stages and might take few years. This is going to be a tough task considering the complexities involved in language translation. Practically speaking it is almost impossible to create a 100% accurate language translation.

touch-screen-apple-imacThe rumor dusts of Apple’s tablet is just about to settle down (because of its forth coming launch) but wait… Apple Fan boys might get another reason to blog for coming 6 months or so. Chinese Language New paper Commercial Times (translated in English) has reported today that Apple plans to launch a 22-inch touch enabled all in one Mac in 2010 along with its 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs. The manufacturing will be done by Quanta and Sintek Photronic will be one supplying touch screen panels. This is the first time any thing related to a 22-inch touch device from Apple has surfaced, so consider this just a rumor as of now. Never the less this sounds quite logical.
