Two largest broadband service providers of America AT&T and Verizon have shown deep concerns with the regulations announced by the chairman of Federal Communication commission (FCC) on net neutrality. These rules indicate towards keeping the broadband networks open and transparent.
In a Report from CNET an AT&T spokesman said
“We are concerned, however, that the FCC appears ready to extend the entire array of Net neutrality requirements to what is perhaps the most competitive consumer market in America: wireless services”
Here is the crux of FCC announcement: Make Internet a free and open place. Prevent Internet service providers from selectively blocking or limiting access to specific services.
They (AT&T and Verizon) agree with keeping broadband services open for wired networks since the peak demands for a resource (Eg: webpage) can be managed. Since the crowding for same resource develops at a very high rate in case of wireless networks, so it will be difficult to manage the demands.
Companies like Clearwire have applauded the regulations. On the whole I suppose it’s the competition in wireless services market that concerns the leaders (AT&T, Verizon).

Isn’t it frustrating to reinstall all your favorite and perfectly working applications after upgrading or installing an OS on your PC?
Reports confirm that it took more than 20 hrs to upgrade Windows 7 on a machine of 650 GB data and 40 applications in a mid end hardware configuration and in case of high end hardware it takes around 10 hours. However, you can have a clean install with no application in 30 minutes in a high end hardware and 50 minutes in case of low end hardware (further analysis here). So, if you really want to install Window 7 quick and fast, first you need to uninstall all your applications and store it in some place, then install Windows 7 and then probably you can go about reinstalling all your applications one by one. That looks like a tedious job.
In Windows Digital Lifestyle Consortium in Japan last year Gates talked about the performance of Windows 7 and suggested that it will take less memory and will be more efficient. More than one and half year has passed and after all the regression testing this is something that comes out on the up gradation of windows 7 on a high end hardware configuration.

Just think about the low end hardware user, how much time will it take to install windows 7 in their system? My wild guess says around 2 days (just kidding). Microsoft has already confused users by giving phantom promises on the efficiency and performance of Vista over XP in past. Just more than a month left before the official release of Windows 7 on October 22nd. Lets hope it doesn’t disappoints us again like Vista.

Google is planning to introduce a new micropayment platform which is an extension of Google Checkout, to charge for content online. This payment platform(micropayment) is headed towards the newspapers who want to charge for their digital content.
Google’s vision in response to NAA’s request for paid content proposal is
It would charge anything from penny to dollars and will also share the revenue with the publishers. It will follow a credit system of subscription and payment based on the past credit of the user. The question is will it solve the economic challenges that print media is facing??? google says it will only be an assistance to those challenges but not the exact solution .
With this I hope criticism of google by print media for years will slow down. Micropayment has got the potential to monetize the digital assets of print media.

Yet another update! This time theApple rumour gang says…No camera in iPod because of hardware issues. Wednesday’s event (dubbed as : Its only rock and roll but we like it by Apple) is more likely to be focused around music (but no Beatles).
Appleinsider says
“Just days before Apple is expected to unveil its new line of iPods, multiple reports are suggesting that some of the widely anticipated camera-equipped media players could be delayed due to technical difficulties”
In our earlier posts we said that cameras are coming to ipods, but it seems like some driver related issuein the camera module of the ipod hardware will possibly delay the availability of new camera enabled ipods. One possibility is – Steve might announce camera iPod but they will be available in the market only after 2-3 months.
so what can we expect? death of classic ipods, launch of iTunes9 with a music sharing feature with twitter/facebook and Iphone 3.1 OS upgrade.
Apart from these speculations, I think this year apple is not going to surprise the world as the theme suggests focusing more on music in tomorrow’s keynote.
Welcome back on stage Steve!

After Google announced about Chrome OS, there have been a lot of speculation about the Microsoft Gazelle. So, what exactly is Gazelle?
First and foremost it IS NOT an OS (mind my words I said ‘IS NOT’ and not ‘WILL NOT BE’). Gazelle is a multi processing browser something similar to Chrome (more info). Gazelle is coded in C# having a user interface that is built with .NET’s WinForms framework. Unlike the old paradigm were there was only a single process running for a web page, multi processing splits different functionality (iframe) of a web page into different processes. For example, for this page there will be a separate process running for the twitter updates on the right hand side. This approach splits the web page into multiple process hence making it more stable, secure and efficient + bringing it closer to an operating system.
Now, what can we expect from Gazelle? It was initially intended to be a more efficient web browser that will run on Windows but Chrome OS might just motivate Gazelle to follow its footsteps.
